If you are unable to serve communion on the assigned date, contact one of the other volunteers and arrange for a substitution or switch. Communion assistants will come forward to receive Holy Communion, serve the Pastor, and then move to the sides to serve the congregation. The words for distribution of the bread are "Body of Christ, given for you" and for the wine are "Blood of Christ, shed for you." If you need some direction or instructions before serving, contact Pastor John; most questions can be answered in 5 minutes. Thank you for your willingness to serve our members.

Communion Preparation:

Laura Bishop (or substitute) will prepare 4 or 5 communion trays. The communion trays and the basket will be placed on the altar before the service. Extra wine and grape juice (in squeeze bottles) and an empty tray will also be on the altar.

8:00 A.M. Communion Assistants

After the 8:00 a.m. service, remove any trays that are only partially filled and the basket of used cups to the kitchen. Empty the used cups from the basket into the garbage and clean the liner of the basket. Refill the trays so that there are 5 full trays for the 10:30 a.m. service. Fill about ten (10) glasses with grape juice (found in the refrigerator) and the other glasses with wine. Place the filled trays and the basket on the altar. On special occassions, fill more trays. Place the bottles of wine and grape juice in the refrigerator.

10:30 A.M Communion Assistants and Wednesday Night

After the 10:30 a.m. or 6:45 p.m. service, return all the trays, the basket of used cups, and the extra wine and grape juice to the kitchen. Empty the used cups from the basket into the garbage and clean the liner of the basket. Dump any unused grape juice from the glasses into a container and drink it or pour it onto the ground outside. Do not put it down the drain as it has been blessed and must be disposed of appropriately. Dump any unused wine back into the squeeze bottle and place it in the north refrigerator. Cups that had wine or juice but were not used should be washed and placed on a towel to drip dry. Wednesday nights often use intinction so that requires washing the bowls and cups and dispersing of the grape juice and extra bread.

Extra Information

Extra wafers are kept in the kitchen. Wine and juice are kept in the north refrigerator. Let the office know when the wine or grape juice are low so more can be purchased.
